About Us

OXFORD HOUSE was founded by Govinda Narayan chattopadhyay Memorial Trust on 2nd April 2001. Dr Neera Chattopadhyay has founded the Trust in memory of her husband Late Govinda Narayan Chattopadhyay in 2000. He was the first D. Lit. in Education of the University of Calcutta. He was a student of renowned Scientist Meghnad Shah. He retired as the Director of Education in Tripura. His contribution in education has become a legend In Tripura. He constituted a number of Primary and Secondary Schools. His mission was to spread education in every corner of Tripura among all communities. He founded Shiksha Niketan, a Higher Secondary School in Agartala of Tripura by spending his retirement benefit. Dr Neera Chattopadhyay was the associate founder of that school.

In Kasba, OXFORD HOUSE was situated in the year 2001. The first stone was laid by Dr Neera Chattopadhyay and her grand-daughter as well as disciple Dr Nivedita Kundu. The place was selected and purchased by them on 8th September 2000. Dr Neera chattopadhyay provided financial support and Dr Nivedita Kundu executed the plan. The school was started with 59 students 28 students got spot admission on the opening day of the school in the field where Dr Nivedita Kundu went for campaigning. There was a hall of around 1000sft with the roof corrugated tin. The floor was not cemented. So, students sat on the carpet and kept their books on the floor. There were no tables and chairs for the teachers.

Dr Neera Chatterjee arranged funds and the school grew bit by bit. Now it has a three-storied building with 3400sft. Total 430 students, 26 teachers and 2 school mothers are working there. The exceptional feature of the school is its seven pioneer teachers who are the pillars of the school. Teachers are here monimas and monikakus. They are like mothers and uncles. They are very affectionate and caring. The healthy and bonding interpersonal relationship between teachers is rarely noticed anywhere else.

OXFORD HOUSE, the name given by Late Govinda Narayan Chattopadhyay, is now a co-educational Higher Secondary School. It has got its affiliation up to Junior High in 2010 AND High School in 2012. We try to nurture young minds, instill the right belief and attitude. The school is committed to provide quality education irrespective of their financial status.
